Two former deputy ministers of the Ministry of Public Security were prosecuted.
Mr. Bui Van Thanh and Tran Viet Tan were accused of being involved in the wrongdoings of Phan Anh Van Vu (Vu "Nhom").

On December 14, the Investigation Police Agency (Ministry of Public Security) prosecuted and banned Mr. Bui Van Thanh (60 years old) and Tran Viet Tan (63 years old) from leaving their place of residence to investigate signs of crime.Lack of responsibility causes serious consequences, according to Article 285 of the 1999 Penal Code.
Four months ago, the two men were stripped of their Deputy Minister of Public Security titles. Mr. Thanh was demoted from Lieutenant General to Colonel; Mr. Tan from Senior Lieutenant General to Lieutenant General.
Authorities announced the prosecution as part of an expanded investigation into the case of abuse of power while performing official duties involving Phan Van Anh Vu and his accomplices. Mr. Thanh was prosecuted as the former director and Mr. Tan as the former director general.
The Politburo believes that Mr. Thanh has caused very serious consequences, negatively affecting the reputation of the Party organization, the Public Security sector and individuals, causing bad public opinion and indignation in society. He must be responsible for allowing many violations to occur at the General Department of Logistics and Technology; violating regulations on protecting state secrets and the Working Regulations of the Ministry of Public Security; signing documents of the Ministry of Public Security proposing the sale of a number of security houses and lands in violation of the law... He signed the decision toVu "Nhom"participating in a delegation going abroad and requesting to issue a diplomatic passport to this person even though he is not the right person or does not meet the standards.
Mr. Tan was irresponsible, lax in leadership, lacked inspection and supervision, signed a number of documents violating regulations on protecting state secrets, causing very serious consequences, and negatively affecting the reputation of the police force.

Mr. Bui Van Thanh has been Deputy Minister since 2014, previously holding the positions of Director, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Engineering, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Logistics and Engineering.
Mr. Tran Viet Tan was Deputy Minister for the 2011-2016 term, and served as Deputy Director General and then Director General of the General Department of Intelligence (General Department V).
