HAGL club manager Nguyen Tan Anh admitted he had heard that two Australian teams were interested in Cong Phuong, but the club wanted to focus entirely on the V.League.

Two teams interested in Công Phượng are Newcastle Jets and Central Coast Mariners. They have been following him since the SEA Games and want to recruit the striker from Nghệ An to play in the Australian A.League, which starts this October.

"I know the Australian team wants Cong Phuong, but HAGL isn't thinking about that right now. We're only focused on avoiding relegation in the V.League and don't want the players to be distracted," said Mr. Nguyen Tan Anh.

In theory, Cong Phuong has many advantages to play in the A.League because the V.League ends in September. However, if Phuong is called up to the national team by coach Miura to prepare for the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, he and his club will have to consider the matter carefully. Everything will become clear in the near future when the two Australian teams work with HAGL.

In the past, at the end of 2012, midfielder Tran Phi Son of SLNA was invited by the coaching staff of Sydney FC to play in the A.League for U21 teams. The Australian team was willing to pay a salary of up to 3,000 USD/month plus a fee to SLNA for Phi Son to play in about 7 matches, lasting until January 2013. However, for various reasons, this did not materialize.
