Two Vietnamese in the top 100 outstanding Asian scientists 2019
Asian Scientist magazine (Singapore) voted two Vietnamese scientists as having outstanding achievements in the field of medicine and pharmacy.

The list of 100 outstanding scientists of Asia has just been published.Asian Scientist magazine announced the names of two Vietnamese scientists, including:Professor Nguyen Thanh Liem (Vinmec Stem Cell and Gene Technology Research Institute) and Dr. Nguyen Thi Hiep (International University, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City). The person recognized in this list must have won a national or international award in 2018 for important scientific research or leadership in academia or industry.
Professor Nguyen Thanh Liem is recognized for many achievements, eachis the first stem cell transplant doctor to treat cerebral palsy and autism in Vietnam;Directly operated on 5 cases of conjoined twins, which were more difficult than 15 years ago.He also has nearly 100 scientific works in international journals in the US and Europe. Most recently, he published nResearch on Vietnamese genome sequencing.Professor Nguyen Thanh Liem was awarded the Nikkei Asia Prize for science and technology.

The second scientist to be named is Dr. Nguyen Thi Hiep, currently head of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the International University. Dr. Hiep received the L'Oréal - UNESCO award forOutstanding female scientists under 40 years old2018 for havingresearched a type of glue that could be used to treat different types of wounds, kill bacteria, and reduce tissue regeneration time. She was also awarded theFirst prize ASEAN-US Award - 2017 for Solutions to reduce pressure on rapidly urbanizing cities - Public Health category, ASEAN-2017.
This is the fourth year that Asian Scientist magazine has organized a vote and announced a list of leading scientists in the region with research, innovation and significant contributions in many fields. To date, Vietnam has had 7 scientists on the Asian Scientist list.
