Two minutes of siege, shooting down old farmer by group of people in pickup truck
Seeing a pickup truck rushing towards him blocking the road, Mr. Nguyen Viet Ly was hit by two bullets before he could react.
On April 7, Huong Khe District Police (Ha Tinh) said that in addition to arresting Thai Ba Nguyen (35 years old), the unit had summoned four other people involved in the shooting of Nguyen Viet Ly (62 years old) who collapsed in the middle of the street to investigate the crime.Intentional injury, according to Article 134 of the 2015 Penal Code.
At around 5:30 p.m. on April 5, Mr. Ly and some relatives walked from the edge of the forest in Huong Vinh commune to the provincial road when they were surrounded by a group of 5 people led by Nguyen in a pickup truck. From a distance of a few meters, Nguyen stood in the car and fired 5 shots at Mr. Ly, causing him to collapse on the road.

Witnesses said the pickup truck sped off, then braked suddenly in the middle of the road, causing panic among many people. They then heard gunshots, and a few seconds later, they saw Mr. Ly hit by a bullet and bleeding profusely.
"Seeing the victim collapse, the group of people in the car slammed the door and drove away towards Ban Giang Border Guard Station. It was getting dark at that time, and the group was so aggressive that we did not dare to chase them. Fortunately, no one around was hit by stray bullets," said the witness.
According to witnesses, the shooting lasted about 2 minutes. When the group of people in the car left, everyone called the local authorities, bandaged the victim's wound and took him to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Mr. Dang Quang Huy, Chairman of the People's Committee of Huong Vinh Commune, said that Mr. Ly is the Head of Vinh Phuc Village and works in forestry. Suspect Nguyen was originally from Huong Vinh Commune and later moved to Huong Khe Town to live. He used to work in a timber trading business in Laos, but has now retired and is running his own business at home.
The group of people traveling in the car with Nguyen were influential "big shots" in the area.
The cause of the shooting was determined to be a conflict between Nguyen's family and Mr. Ly's family over forest land. The incident has been going on for many years, the two sides have sat down together but could not find a common voice, often arguing.
In addition to collecting two shell casings at the scene, police also discovered a gun in Nguyen's house. "The unit is examining whether this is a military gun or an air gun. Only when there is a conclusion will a solution be decided," informed the leader of Huong Khe District Police.
