Vietnam Navy has 2 more fast attack missile boats

A pair of fast attack missile boats with modern weapons... have been handed over to the navy to contribute to enhancing combat strength to protect sea and island sovereignty.

On the afternoon of June 2, Ba Son Corporation (General Department of Defense Industry) held a handover ceremony for two missile boats (pair 2) of class 12418 with serial numbers 379 and 380 to the Navy. These are 2 of 6 missile boats that Ba Son Corporation signed a contract to build for the Navy since 2009, based on a technology transfer contract between Vietnam and the Russian Federation.

According to information from Ba Son Corporation, the two ships were started to be built in October 2011. In April, both ships were successfully tested for live-fire at the Navy and Ministry of National Defense levels before being handed over. During the construction of this pair of ships, Ba Son strictly followed the process, technology, and ensured quality and aesthetics in accordance with the contract.

Rear Admiral, Major General Nguyen Van Ninh, Deputy Commander of the Navy, said that the 12418 fast-attack missile ship has high combat power, is equipped with modern, synchronized weapons, has superior features, strong firepower, and fast mobility. When fighting, the ship is capable of independent combat or coordinated combat, quickly resolving key battles at sea effectively.

In June 2014, two missile ships of this type, numbered 377 and 378, were handed over to the Navy, contributing to enhancing the combat strength to protect the sovereignty of the sea and islands and the exclusive economic zone of the Fatherland.

Molnya 12418 missile boat is equipped with four Uran-E missile launchers with a total of 16 missiles, a firing range of 130 km, an AK-176M automatic gun, a firing range of about 15 km, a height of 11 km and a speed of about 120-130 rounds/minute. The boat is also equipped with two AK630 automatic 6-barrel guns, with a firing range of 4-5 km, a firing speed of 4,000 - 5,000 rounds/minute.
