Comrade Le Xuan Dai highly appreciated this achievement as it not only successfully solved the case but also ensured absolute safety for the detectives as well as civilians in the border area.

According to Nghe An Border Guard, this project was established in November 2017, when detectives discovered a "huge" drug ring taking advantage of the trade through the border between Laos and Vietnam. The ringleader was Gia Xuc Van Xay (27 years old, residing in Xay district, Udom Xay province, Laos). Van Xay was very cunning and reckless, even though he was disabled in his legs and had to walk with a limp.

After a long period of secret surveillance, the scouts determined that Xay often went to the Golden Triangle area, where Laos, Thailand and Myanmar meet to buy "goods". This area is considered one of the opium capitals. After having the "goods", Xay often ordered his underlings to transport them through Laos and then continue to cross the forest into Vietnam for consumption.

In early 2018, due to the high demand for drugs, Xay personally went to get the "goods" and then directly transported them into Vietnam through the border between Nghe An and Xieng Khouang province. Upon receiving intelligence, Nghe An Border Guard coordinated with Xieng Khouang Police to "dismantle" this ring.

At 8:00 p.m. on January 12, after determining that Xay and his accomplices would transport drugs across the border, a reconnaissance force of 20 people secretly crossed the forest to lie in ambush. "The 20 scouts were divided into 4 groups and crossed the forest for 6 hours at night, at that time the weather was about 4 degrees Celsius" - Colonel Nguyen Chi Ty - Head of the Drug and Crime Prevention Department said.

Arriving at the ambush point, the detectives had to wait another 3 hours to intercept Van Xay. Assisting Gia Xuc Van Xay at this time was Lo Dao (31 years old, capital of Vientiane, Laos). Searching Xay's backpack, the detectives seized 18,000 synthetic drug pills.

Xay told the detectives that after buying a large amount of drugs from the Golden Triangle, Xay and Lo Dao drove a car towards the Vietnam border. When they arrived in Udomxay province (Laos), Xay changed vehicles to avoid being detected. Because it was still light in Udomxay, Xay discussed with Lo Dao waiting for it to get dark and then cut through the forest to go towards the Vietnam border.

Van Xay and Lo Dao along with the evidence of the case have been handed over to Xieng Khouang Provincial Police (Laos) for further investigation.
