Two escaped death row inmates discovered in Quang Ninh

After three days of breaking through a wall to escape from a prison in Hanoi, two death row inmates appeared at a karaoke bar in Quang Ninh.

On the evening of September 13, two criminals escaped from T16 prison (Ministry of Public Security).Le Van Tho (aka Tho “Sut”, 37 years old) and Nguyen Van Tinh (28 years old) were discovered hiding in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh.

"We discovered these two people at a karaoke bar in Ha Long City, but have not yet been able to arrest them," said a source.

Ha Long City Police have sent a notice to residents asking them to be vigilant and to report any information about the two men to the local police immediately. Images of the two criminals have also been released to the public.

According to the investigation agency, Tho “Sut” and Tinh shared a solitary confinement cell. On the night of September 10 to the morning of September 11, taking advantage of the heavy rain, the two men broke their shackles, dug into the cell wall, climbed the prison wall, and then used a rope to escape.

Leaving T16 prison, Tinh returned to a relative’s house in Yen Trung commune, Thach That district (Hanoi) and took a motorbike to escape with Tho “Sut”. Cameras of several households around the area recorded images of two men with similar facial features to the two escaped death row inmates.

Police records show that Tinh is 1.7 m tall and was wearing a gray-blue long-sleeved shirt and purple pants when he escaped. Tho has a goatee, is stocky, and was wearing an ash-colored long-sleeved plaid shirt and blue jeans.

Five years ago, Tho led a group of his followers to kidnap a little girl and demanded a ransom of 500 million VND. Three days after committing the crime, Tho was arrested and sentenced by the People's Court of Son La province to a total of 27 years in prison for murder and kidnapping...

During his sentence at Nam Ha prison (Ministry of Public Security), Tho continued to direct his juniors to commit a series of crimes that injured a father and son in Ha Nam by 33-56%; detonated a mine at a couple's house in Son La province, but failed...

Last May, Tho was sentenced to death by the People's Court of Ha Nam province for the crimes of Murder and Illegal drug trafficking... Tho was transferred to T16 prison to await execution of his sentence and is in the appeal phase.

Meanwhile, last April, Tinh was sentenced to death by the Hanoi People's Court for illegally buying and selling 490 heroin cakes hidden in industrial gas cylinders.
