South Korea spends a lot of money on a team to overthrow Kim Jong-un

The South Korean government has allocated the first budget of $310,000 to a newly established unit with the mission of overthrowing North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

South Korean media reported on December 5 that the government had allocated the first budget of 340 million won (about 310,000 USD) to a newly established special forces unit tasked with overthrowing the North Korean leadership, including leader Kim Jong-un, and destroying Pyongyang's key military facilities. This is part of the $40 billion budget allocated by the South Korean government to the military in 2018.

“This money (340 million won) will be used to purchase equipment for the special forces, including suicide drones, reconnaissance drones and machine guns,”Korea Heraldquoted an unnamed South Korean Defense Ministry official as saying.

The South Korean Ministry of National Defense is expected to continue increasing the budget for the special forces tasked with overthrowing the North Korean leadership. An estimated $23.7 million will be spent to improve the combat capabilities of this special force.

Established on December 1, the Korean special forces team consists of about 1,000 members under the Korean Special Forces Command. They are professionally trained following the model of famous special forces teams in the world such as Rangers, Delta, SEAL or Green Berets.

The South Korean military initially planned to launch the special unit in 2019, but Seoul later decided to speed up the process amid growing threats from North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

Previously, South Korean Defense Minister Song Yong-moo first mentioned the establishment of the special forces brigade in September after North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear test. At that time, Mr. Song said that the unit would begin operating by the end of this year.
