Ms. Kang explained that the process requires consultations with Pyongyang and Washington.
Speaking to reporters shortly after a phone call with her US counterpart Mike Pompeo, Ms. Kang Kyung-wha said that President Trump's administration is ready to officially declare an end to the 1950-1953 Korean War, which was agreed upon by the leaders of the two Koreas during their summit last April.
"I think we need to reach a result through consultations with the US and North Korea. However, South Korea plans to resolve this issue in a flexible time frame and format," the South Korean foreign minister stressed.
Ms. Kang Kyung-wha also quoted her US counterpart as saying that Mr. Pompeo's dialogue with the North Korean side after the US-North Korea summit in Singapore will be quickly promoted.
Referring to the proposed "hotline" between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha said the establishment of a hotline seemed unclear.
Ms. Kang expressed hope to hold separate dialogue with her North Korean counterpart Ri Yong-ho on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum, scheduled to be held in Singapore in early August./.
