South Korea will provide accurate information about MERS to other countries.

According to Kyodo News, on June 9, South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesperson Noh Kwang-il stated that the country would provide accurate information on the developments of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in South Korea to foreign countries.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that they will continue to closely monitor the reactions of other countries regarding MERS.

The statement was issued after the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) issued a "red" travel advisory recommending that citizens limit travel to South Korea, and amid reports of seven MERS deaths and a rise in the number of infected cases to 95.

In addition, Mr. Noh stated that South Korea and the World Health Organization (WHO) are conducting a joint investigation into the epidemic situation and will soon announce the results. Currently, the WHO has not recommended any restrictions on South Korea.

Mr. Noh also downplayed the importance of the restrictions issued to South Korea by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last week, stating that South Korea was one of 30 countries placed at the lowest level of restrictions.

The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also begun setting up a center to answer questions from foreign residents regarding MERS, at the request of diplomatic representatives in Seoul.
