(Baonghean.vn) - North Korea and South Korea will hold talks to formally establish a peace treaty to end the Korean War later this year, pledging to end 65 years of military confrontation and restart the process of establishing peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The document, officially called the “Panmunjom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity and Unification of the Korean Peninsula,” was released after a day of meetings and 30 minutes of private talks between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in. “The two leaders officially declared... that there will be no more war on the Korean Peninsula and a new era of peace has begun,” the statement said.


In addition, according to the joint statement, the two sides will conduct general-level military dialogue next May. The two Koreas agreed to carry out family reunions and set up liaison offices in North Korean border cities.
