(Baonghean.vn) -Prolonged rains and floods have caused many schools in Nghe An to be flooded and isolated; thousands of students in the area have had to stay home from school.

» Farmers lost hundreds of millions of dong because oranges fell due to floods

At Hung Trung Kindergarten in Hung Nguyen District, teacher Nguyen Thi Lan Anh, the school's principal, said: For the past two days, due to heavy rain and rising water levels, the school had to let all students stay home to ensure safety.

According to the school's plan, students will start going back to school early next week and the school has proactively organized to clean up the school yard. However, this plan is facing many difficulties because the rain continues to be heavy and the possibility of widespread flooding is very likely to occur.

At Hung Thinh Kindergarten, Ms. Chu Thi Nam, the school principal, also said: Since Tuesday, all of the school's more than 300 students have had to stay home from school due to flooding and the situation may continue for many more days because Hung Thinh is a low-lying area. Due to flooding for many days, all equipment, utensils, and toys in the school grounds have been severely damaged. Inside the classrooms, although the school has mobilized staff, teachers, and parents to place toys and teaching equipment on desks, the risk of damage is still very high as the flood situation remains complicated.

Next to the kindergarten, Hung Thinh Primary and Secondary Schools also had to let students stay home for many days because not only the school but also many roads leading to the school were flooded. Teacher Le Thi Nguyet, Principal of Hung Thinh Primary School, also said: Although a long school break will disrupt students' learning, at the present time, the most important thing is the safety of the students. After this flood, the school will plan to make up for the students' missed classes on Wednesday afternoons, Saturdays and Sundays.

Mr. Hoang Van Thu, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Hung Nguyen district, said: Due to the characteristics of the district, which has many low-lying areas and some communes located outside the dike, thousands of students from communes such as Hung Dong, Hung Thinh, Hung Loi, and Hung Trung have had to stay home from school in recent days.

The department's leaders also emphasized that schools need to regularly monitor unusual weather developments to proactively arrange teaching and learning schedules. At the same time, it is necessary to have the most effective measures to protect the safety of school facilities, agencies, and units.

In the mountainous district of Quy Chau, heavy rains in recent days have also caused erosion at Chau Hoan Secondary School. The school is currently mobilizing staff, teachers and local militia to use sandbags to cover the landslide area because there is a risk of it spreading to nearby kindergartens.

Heavy rains also isolated and cut off some other schools in the district, such as Chau Thang kindergarten and Bai Tam kindergarten (Chau Hoi commune). The road to school here has to go through a stream, but due to heavy rains, the temporary bridge was washed away, so temporarily during the time the water level rose, students could not go to school.

In Thanh Chuong district, Mr. Dang Van Hoa - Head of the district's Education Department said: Continuous rain for many days caused flooding, forcing nearly 20 schools in 6 communes in the Bich Hao area (Thanh Long, Thanh Ha, Thanh Tung, Thanh Mai, Thanh Xuan, Thanh Lam). Schools had to temporarily close and only resume classes after the water receded.

Mr. Nguyen Trong Hoan - Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training said: The rain and floods lasted for many days, so the Department directed the Department of Education and schools to proactively grasp the situation to deal with all situations. In flooded and isolated areas, schools proactively informed students to stay home from school.

While students are on leave, schools need to take measures to protect and ensure the safety, health and lives of students.
