This morning, many Party and State leaders, along with thousands of teachers and students, bid farewell to the master of Vietnamese History.

Professor Phan Huy Le passed away on June 23. The funeral was held by his family, Hanoi National University, and the Vietnam Historical Science Association from 7:30 a.m. on June 27 at the Ministry of National Defense Funeral Home, No. 5, Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi.

From early morning, many generations of students and those who loved and respected Professor Phan Huy Le were present to pay their respects to him. Many people could not hold back their tears.

Former President Truong Tan Sang wrote in the condolence book: “Professor, People's Teacher Phan Huy Le, a leading expert in Vietnamese history, a great talent in the country's historical community, has passed away. My deepest condolences to the professor's family. Farewell, Professor, People's Teacher Phan Huy Le.”

Offering incense to Professor Phan Huy Le, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam wrote: “The professor is no longer here, but his contributions to the cause of science and education, as well as the good feelings and memories of him, will last forever. May the professor rest in peace. His colleagues and students will follow in his footsteps and fulfill his wishes. Today and tomorrow, many, many people who “know our history” and study “our history” will remember and remember the professor.”

Former Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi expressed: “The teacher’s passing leaves a void in the country’s history. This loss is truly irreparable. His valuable and great contributions to the research and training career… have become the common property of the historians and scientists that he left for future generations.”

Mrs. Hoang Nhu Lan, the professor's wife, sat in a wheelchair at the funeral. When she was sick, Professor Phan Huy Le was the one who was by her side, taking care of her.

Students of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities lined up.

Thousands of people stood silently to listen to the eulogy and memorial service for Professor Phan Huy Le. Director of Hanoi National University Nguyen Kim Son read the eulogy, recalling the professor's biography and contributions to the country's social sciences and humanities. Throughout his life, Professor Phan Huy Le published more than 450 scientific research works.

Mr. Son emphasized that Professor Phan Huy Le is the head of the school of corroborative history, always emphasizing the role of historical materials and approaches in historical research.

“As an expert on Vietnamese history, Professor Phan Huy Le's scope covered most of the main fields of Vietnamese social sciences,” the eulogy stated.

The funeral procession began at 10:30 a.m. the same day. Professor Phan Huy Le's body was buried at Vinh Hang Cemetery, Hanoi. In her final words of thanks, Professor Phan Huy Le's daughter, Ms. Phan Phuong Thao, shared: "Through the ups and downs of life, Dad still maintained a tolerant, calm, and resolute heart. Dad always maintained the philosophy that truth is the highest truth. Dad lived a life of dedication, dedicating all his energy to the history of the country."
