(Baonghean.vn) - Nghe An Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital (Nghe An Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital) regularly receives cases of severed limbs due to work accidents and domestic accidents and performs microsurgery to reconnect limbs for patients with a high success rate.
Work accident causing severed limb
Patient HVT, 33 years old, from Thanh Chuong - Nghe An was taken to the emergency room at Nghe An Trauma Hospital in the following condition: The wound almost severed the right foot, exposing the tendons and bones, with the skin stalk still across the outer edge of the fifth toe of the right foot; The first, second, third, fourth, and fifth toes were bruised and had no blood circulation.
According to the family, patient T. was hit by a lawn mower in the right leg, causing the leg to nearly be severed. The patient was taken to the district hospital for first aid, then transferred to Nghe An Trauma Hospital.

Dr. Nguyen Huu Duc - Head of the microsurgery team said: "Microsurgery to reconnect blood vessels, nerves, and severed limbs is considered a complex technique, requiring surgeons to have specialized skills, skillful hands, and smooth coordination between specialties."
At Nghe An CTCH Hospital, with a system of standardized operating rooms, modern medical equipment fully meeting the needs of sterile and highly technical surgeries, along with a team of well-trained and experienced professionals, allowing for precise suturing of small blood vessels and nerve bundles; Therefore, the reattachment of severed limbs has a very high success rate.
As a provincial specialized hospital, Nghe An CTCH Hospital has been a pioneer in performing microsurgery to reconnect limbs in the province since 2014. Since then, the hospital has regularly received and successfully performed surgery on hundreds of cases of severed limbs, restoring motor function to patients.
Doctor Duc recommends: “When an accident causes a limb to be severed, it is necessary to immediately stop the bleeding and take the patient and the severed limb to the nearest medical facility for first aid; then quickly transport the patient to a specialized hospital to reattach the limb. The golden time to “save” the patient’s severed limb is within 6 hours. If left longer, the tissues will begin to die, and the reattachment will be difficult to succeed.”
Severing body parts due to accidents is common, so everyone needs to raise awareness of self-protection and occupational safety to avoid unfortunate accidents that may occur./.
