(Baonghean.vn) - Following a heavy rain and strong winds that lasted from the evening of May 13th to the early morning of May 14th, hundreds of hectares of rice and corn ready for harvest in Nam Dan and Thanh Chuong districts (Nghe An province) were flattened over a wide area. From early morning, farmers rushed to the fields to save their crops.

From 6 a.m. on May 14th, Mr. and Mrs. Phan Van Hoa from Hong Thai hamlet, Nam Thai commune (Nam Dan district) rushed to the fields to save their rice crop. Looking at the flattened fields submerged in water, Mr. Hoa couldn't help but feel heartbroken. Mr. Hoa said: "My family has 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) of spring rice, almost ready for harvest, when heavy rain and strong winds caused 3 sao to be completely flattened." | Mr. Tran Phi Hung, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Thanh Chuong district, said: "Recently, there have been many unusual weather phenomena, including the heavy rain and strong winds last night and this morning, which have damaged many areas of corn and rice. Currently, we are advising farmers to focus on harvesting the flattened and waterlogged rice with the motto 'better to harvest while still green than to let it rot in the field.' For corn, try to harvest the areas that are ready for harvest.
