Hundreds of aircraft participate in joint South Korea-US military exercises

(Baonghean.vn)- On November 24, the South Korean military announced that the country and the United States will conduct a joint air force exercise from December 4-8 with the participation of about 230 aircraft and 12,000 troops in a show of force against North Korea.

A statement said the exercise is an annual exercise, stressing that it is aimed at enhancing the joint combat capabilities and combat effectiveness of the two countries' forces. The US Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force will practice with weapons from the Republic of Korea Air Force at eight US and South Korean bases.

The US is planning to send six F-22 Raptor stealth fighters to the exercise, which is seen as a move to put maximum pressure on North Korea. Three or four F-35As may also participate in the exercise.

Last month, the two sides agreed to increase rotational deployments of US strategic weapons to counter North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats. Earlier this month, three US aircraft carriers conducted joint naval exercises with South Korea in an unprecedented show of force against North Korea./.
