Nghi Loc shallots are granted VietGap certification.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of January 12, in Nghi Lam commune, Nghi Loc district, Nghe An Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management organized the issuance of VietGap Certificates for local shallot products.
The model of growing shallots according to good agricultural production standards (VietGap) was built by the Nghe An Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in collaboration with the People's Committee of Nghi Lam commune in Cat Sat and Giap Can fields with a total area of 17 hectares. The Nghe An Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Quality Management has guided 150 households participating in the model to follow the VietGap process from production to harvesting and processing.

At the end of 2017, the analysis results of the model's shallot samples showed that the shallots met VietGap standards. On December 25, 2017, the Center for Quality of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Region 1 issued Decision No. 569/QD-TTCL1 on granting VietGap Certificate to Nghi Lam Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative, certifying that shallot products produced in Cat Sat, Giap Can, Nghi Lam Commune, with an area of 17 hectares and an output of 272 tons/year, were produced in accordance with Good Agricultural Production Process for safe fresh vegetables and fruits in Vietnam.
The decision also clearly states: during the validity period of the certification, Nghi Lam Commune Agricultural Service Cooperative is responsible for maintaining the application of VietGap and is subject to supervision by the Center for Quality of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Region 1, periodically every 12 months and sudden assessment according to the provisions of law.

At the ceremony to award the VietGap Certificate for shallot products, Mr. Duong Van Hung - Head of the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Product Quality Management of Nghe An province said that in the near future, he will carry out the process of issuing product traceability stamps; help the cooperative find a cold storage facility to preserve shallot products when this crop is in full harvest and has not yet been consumed in the market. At the same time, he will contact and connect 25 businesses in Vinh city to purchase a part of the VietGap shallot products of Nghi Lam commune people.
Nghi Lam commune's shallots are granted VietGAP certificate, which is a premise for the locality to build a brand and promote and expand the consumption of this product in the market.
