The journey of a girl who lost her legs at 9 days old

For several years now, the people of Hamlet 8, Tan Huong Commune (Tan Ky) have become accustomed to the sight of a girl with amputated legs, moving on her knees, leading cows up the hill to graze every day. From the old to the young, everyone sympathizes with the situation of Le Thi Thuong (born in 1993) - a girl with a pretty face, a life full of hardships and misfortunes but full of determination. After the pain and inferiority complex about her fate, Thuong has stood up on her disabled legs and become a useful person.

Mrs. Dau Thi Loi - Thuong's mother recounted in tears: "All her misfortunes were caused by me, if only I had been more careful that day, it wouldn't have been so bad. Also because of hunger, not having enough food, so after 9 days of giving birth, she had to go to the fields to harvest rice..." That year, Mrs. Loi gave birth to her daughter in September, right in the harvest season, the rice field in front of the house was ripe. Fearing that the storm would wash away all the hard work of many months, even though she was only 9 days old, Mrs. Loi still went to the fields to harvest rice with her older sister. In the morning, baby Thuong was left to her older sister to look after, everything was fine. In the afternoon, the job of looking after Thuong was left to her older brother. While gathering the last bundles of rice, suddenly feeling uneasy, Mrs. Loi hurried home. A horrifying scene unfolded before her eyes, even though 25 years have passed, the mother still cannot stop being haunted, it still often returns in her nightmares.

Entering the house from the yard, she saw the newborn baby no longer lying on the small cot, but lying on the edge of the stove with a pile of burnt diapers. The mother rushed to the stove, picked up the baby and was in excruciating pain when she saw that the entire legs and back of the newborn baby were burned, the baby had fainted. Mrs. Loi and her husband sold all their property and took their child to many places for treatment, but the burns were too severe, the newborn baby's flesh could not recover from the damage, so they had to hold back their tears and watch the little girl's legs gradually fall off. That's where the newborn baby's name Thuong came from.

Since then, Thuong's life has been tied to a small bed, and all daily activities require support from relatives. Mrs. Loi and her husband, Le Trong Nham, feel even more heartbroken and tearful every time they see children in the neighborhood the same age as Thuong learning to walk, then running around the streets and carrying books to school. Thinking that one day their parents will grow old and pass away, and their siblings will have their own lives, the mother is determined to do everything she can to help her disabled daughter get back on her feet.
