"Red Journey" receives 500 units of blood in Vinh City.
(Baonghean.vn) -On the morning of July 23rd, at the Nghe An Provincial Labor Culture House, the Nghe An Provincial Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, in coordination with the "Red Journey" program, organized the launching ceremony for the "Vinh City Blood Donation Day" event.
Attending the ceremony were Comrade Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in Nghe An province; Mr. Bach Quoc Khanh - Deputy Director of the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Deputy Head of the Organizing Committee of the "Red Journey" program; the Nghe An Provincial Red Cross Society, participating blood donation units, sponsoring units of the journey, and volunteers.
Comrade Le Xuan Dai - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in Nghe An province, delivered a speech at the ceremony.
Speaking at the ceremony, Comrade Le Xuan Dai warmly welcomed the members of the Red Journey to Nghe An, while also highlighting the noble act of donating blood to save lives and the importance of the Youth Union's nationwide blood donation campaign and organization. The Red Journey program is a continuous thread throughout the country. In particular, the "Drop of Red in Vinh City" blood donation event is a highlight full of compassion and humanity, with significant promotional value contributing to the further development of the voluntary blood donation movement in the province. Voluntary blood donation will become a noble act and a tradition of compassion, "Love others as you love yourself," of the people of Nghe An.
200 members of the Provincial Police Department's Youth Union participated in blood donation.
Following the opening ceremony, the "Vinh City Blood Donation Day" held a blood donation drive at the Provincial Labor Culture House. A large number of volunteers from various units and agencies in the city, such as the Provincial Police and the Tax Department, participated in the blood donation. On the morning of July 23rd, the event received over 400 units of blood; however, due to bad weather, the total expected donation for the day was 500 units.
At the event, Mr. Bach Quoc Khanh highly appreciated the voluntary blood donation movement in Nghe An over the past years and expressed his confidence in the results achieved by the Journey here.
Thalassemia, or congenital hemolytic anemia, is one of the most common genetic complications worldwide. All patients require long-term blood transfusions at extremely high costs, significantly impacting their lives. In Vietnam, it is estimated that approximately 5 million people carry the disease gene, and 20,000 suffer from the disease requiring lifelong treatment. The high prevalence of gene carriers is concentrated mainly in disadvantaged areas and ethnic minority regions. |
Mr. Vi Van Khan (Quy Hop), a patient with congenital hemolytic anemia, was deeply moved and expressed his gratitude for the noble gestures that have supported and given patients like him more strength to live.
Commemorative medals were presented to comrades Le Xuan Dai and Bui Thi Mai (Chairpersons of the Provincial Red Cross Society) and representatives of the sponsors of the Red Journey.
