Journey to help children with deltoid fibrosis
(Baonghean) - In recent days, Vinh Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center has sent staff directly to areas in Quynh Luu district to examine and perform free surgery for children with deltoid fibrosis. This activity opens up rehabilitation opportunities for many disabled children in difficult circumstances.
Many families, due to difficult circumstances and the hustle and bustle of making a living, do not have the means to take their children to see a doctor for physical abnormalities. Understanding this reality, the staff and doctors of Vinh Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center have gone to schools to provide free examinations to all students with signs of delta muscle abnormalities.

Examination of deltoid fibrosis at Quynh Dien Secondary School (Quynh Luu). |
Nguyen Thi Hong Th. - Quynh Dien Secondary School (Quynh Luu) is one of the cases that was examined and diagnosed with the disease during this period. Hung, her father, was very worried about his child's illness and wondered where he would "get the money" to treat his child... But when the doctors advised him that this deformity was not too complicated, that he could return home after 1 day of surgery and that this was a completely free program, with support for travel and accommodation costs, he was very excited. Hung was moved and said: "The family doesn't know what else to say, we can only thank the program...".
As for Nguyen Dinh D. - a 9th grade student at Quynh Hong Secondary School, after being examined, the doctors concluded that he had a degenerative disease called delta muscle fibrosis. He sadly shared: "Last year, my mother wanted to take me to the doctor, but that day she was sick so I couldn't go to the doctor myself. This time I was very lucky because the doctors promised to perform the surgery for free... If the doctors hadn't come to the school to examine me this time, I don't know when I would have been examined and treated." D. is an excellent student at the school, having won the district's excellent student award. He is also an exemplary class monitor and sings well. His family is very poor, his father died early, his mother is often sick, and he raises 3 siblings alone. As the eldest son, he goes to school and catches crabs and snails to help his mother make ends meet.
During a week of continuous examinations at secondary schools in Quynh Luu district, the Vinh Orthopedic Rehabilitation Center team discovered nearly 40 children with delta muscle deformities and they will receive free surgery as soon as possible. Doctor Nguyen Van An, Director of Center II - directly supporting children with disabilities said: "Delta muscle malformation is not too complicated if detected early. Therefore, mothers who are raising young children (especially those from 1 to 2 years old) should pay close attention to the use of medication for their children, and should not abuse Western medicine. Nghe An is one of the three provinces with the highest number of children with this disease in the country (the highest is Ha Tinh, then Nghe An and the third is Thanh Hoa). In 2014, the program performed free surgery for this malformation for 100 children in the province. In 2015, this was the first examination in Quynh Luu district and will soon be in some mountainous districts such as Ky Son, Tuong Duong... After screening the subjects, the program will perform free surgery next July and will continue to examine all children with malformations in the whole province. The cost of a surgery for a delta muscle fibrosis malformation is 4 million dong but the children get it all free.
