The journey of overcoming fate of a disabled woman
(Baonghean.vn) - Her legs were paralyzed since childhood, her life was tied to a wheelchair, and she encountered many difficulties in moving around, but Ms. Pham Thi Phuong (born in 1982) still constantly strives to improve her life and build a happy family.
In Nghi Huong market area, My Thang block, Nghi Huong ward (Cua Lo town), there is a kiosk selling modern medicine that is quite crowded with customers. The seller is Ms. Pham Thi Phuong - a disabled woman who has to use a wheelchair. According to the people here, behind Ms. Phuong's simple and happy life is a process of overcoming circumstances, tirelessly striving to conquer fate.

“When I was 2 years old, after a high fever and convulsions in my limbs, I became paralyzed in both legs. Although my parents took me everywhere for treatment, they were helpless. My legs suffered from muscle atrophy and gradually shrank, making it impossible for me to stand up. From then on, I began my journey to overcome my disability and reduce the burden on my family and society,” said Pham Thi Phuong.
When she reached school age, seeing her friends happily going to school, little Pham Thi Phuong longed to have the same joy as her friends. Unfortunately, Phuong's legs were very weak, making it difficult for her to move, so her family could not take her to class.

Fortunately, Phuong's mother is a teacher, so whenever she has free time, she spends time teaching her child to read, write and do math according to the primary school program. Despite her handicapped legs, Phuong learns quickly and is not inferior to her classmates at school.
As time went on, her desire to learn grew stronger, and in 1996, her family asked for her to be admitted to 5th grade, and the following year she was allowed to go to middle school. Every day, Phuong was taken to school by her younger sister, who was in the same grade, and by her classmates.

In response to the care of her family, teachers and friends, the disabled girl tried her best to study and achieve good results in her studies. In grade 9 alone, Phuong participated in the provincial excellent student competition and won prizes in 2 subjects (Literature and Geography).
In high school, Pham Thi Phuong had to take a year off school to have surgery and treatment for her legs. After the surgery, Phuong's legs were stronger thanks to the braces, and from then on Phuong could move around with crutches.
That brought joy and confidence on the path of learning and towards the future for the disabled female student. After graduating from high school, Phuong passed the entrance exam to the Faculty of Pharmacy, Nghe An Medical College, her dream of studying in a university came true.

After graduating, Pham Thi Phuong tried to find a job in many places but to no avail, because she was a disabled person. Finally, she decided to return to her hometown and rent a kiosk to sell modern medicine at Nghi Huong market.
Whenever people need medicine to treat common illnesses, they often come to Ms. Phuong, partly because they trust her basic training, and partly because they want to share the burden of life with disabled women.

In 2011, Ms. Pham Thi Phuong met Mr. Phan Le Han (born in 1979) by chance at a wedding in Binh Duong. Mr. Han was from Yen Thanh district and came to the South to work as a factory worker. After that meeting, the two kept in touch regularly, then love blossomed and the two decided to build a happy family together.
At first, both families objected, especially Mr. Han's family, because he was a healthy, normal person, and if he married a disabled girl, he would have to suffer for the rest of his life. However, in 2013, due to the young couple's determination, both families agreed to let them hold their wedding ceremony.

After getting married, the couple faced a new challenge. They were infertile and had to undergo treatment until 2019 before they were able to give birth to their first daughter. During 6 years of waiting, anxiety and worry, they were always close to each other, a support to walk together towards the future. Two years later (2021), Ms. Phuong gave birth to twin girls, so the family had 3 children, and their happiness was even more complete.
Now, the children are all in kindergarten, the family depends on the wife's pharmacy and the husband's locksmith job. Life is still difficult and hard, but their home is always filled with laughter.
There are many challenges ahead, we hope to have enough health to raise our children to adulthood, to have a happy life. And we hope to work hard, save money to build our own house, to make family life less difficult.
