(Baonghean.vn) - For many years, the Do Luong irrigation canal, flowing through Van Son commune, has become a popular destination for children from Van Son commune and many neighboring communes every summer. It serves as both a "swimming pool" where children learn to swim and a place for people to meet, play, and chat. Visiting on a scorching hot day, we captured many interesting images...
| From 4 PM onwards, despite the hot weather, children in the village rushed to the canal to enjoy the cool water that had just been pumped from the Dao River. Usually, to serve the crops, the pumps only operate twice each summer, each time for 7-10 days. |
| Because their house is more than 3km away, Hoang Van Ky's two children were driven there by their parents in a car. |
| Many other parents, even during the new harvest season, still make time to take their children swimming. |
| Called a "swimming pool," this is actually just a section of canal belonging to the No. 1 water pumping station of the Do Luong Irrigation Company. Taking advantage of the days when water is being pumped to prepare for the summer-autumn crop, the people of Van Son commune have transformed this section of canal into a lively swimming pool. This is also perhaps the longest swimming pool in Nghe An province, as it stretches for tens of kilometers, passing through many communes of Do Luong district. The cost of maintaining the pool is also enormous; the electricity bill alone is 15 million VND per day. |
| To help children in the commune learn to swim, the Van Son commune youth union organized free swimming lessons. |
| The children were taught simple techniques right from the shore. |
| The first steps just entered the water. |
| And also warm-up exercises to avoid cramps and exhaustion. |
| Many young children are also taught to swim directly by their parents. |
| The excitement transformed the canal into a lively and joyful swimming area. |
| What's remarkable is that the people here are very conscious of equipping their children with swimsuits, helping them confidently take their first swimming strokes. |
| The grocery store next door also takes advantage of the opportunity to do business. However, the prices here are quite cheap and close to market prices, ranging from 48,000 to 68,000 VND (depending on size). |
| About 1km away, the second, smaller section of the canal is where young boys and girls of preschool age play. |
| The swimming training program, implemented by the Do Luong District Youth Union, is part of their annual summer volunteer program. Its most noticeable effect is that it has helped thousands of students in the area master swimming techniques, preventing drowning and providing them with a beneficial recreational activity during the summer. |
