Seamus Coleman suffered an injury during the 2018 World Cup qualifying match between the Republic of Ireland and Wales. The Everton defender was tackled by Neil Taylor, who almost broke his right leg.
Immediately after being tackled, Coleman fell to the ground and writhed in pain before being placed on a stretcher and taken straight to hospital. At that time, Coleman was given oxygen and his broken leg was fixed.
Wales defender Neil Taylor was sent off shortly after the gruesome tackle. After the match, the Republic of Ireland manager described Coleman’s injury as a “terrible leg break”.

Neil Taylor had a very fierce tackle on Coleman. |
With this injury, Coleman will certainly not be able to play for the rest of the season. Even Everton's right-back will likely be out of action until the end of 2017. This is a huge loss for both Everton and the Republic of Ireland as Coleman is a mainstay for both teams.
The 28-year-old moved to Everton in 2009 for £60,000. He has since made 247 appearances for the blue half of Merseyside, establishing himself as the club's first-choice right-back. He has also made 43 appearances for the Republic of Ireland, scoring once, and is currently the club's captain.

Coleman's leg was almost broken after being tackled by his opponent. |
Seamus Coleman’s injury is reminiscent of another defender, Luke Shaw, who suffered a broken leg during a 2015 Manchester United-PSV Eindhoven match. During a fierce tackle from defender Hector Moreno, Shaw’s leg was severed shortly afterwards.
The injury caused Luke Shaw to lose 8 months of treatment, and he could only return to competition after nearly 1 year.
