A diet rich in fish and green tea is considered a secret to the longevity and good health of Japanese women.

According to data from the UK's Office for Statistics, the average life expectancy for Japanese women is 86.4 years, while their counterparts in the UK live to an average of 82.7 years. The average life expectancy for men in the two countries appears to be less different, at 79.9 years for Japanese men and 78.9 years for British men.

Vietnamese people currently have a lower average life expectancy than the people of both of the aforementioned countries, with men averaging 70.2 years and women 75.6 years, as of 2013.

According to experts, women in other countries, especially in Western nations, could significantly increase their average lifespan if they adopted the healthy lifestyle of their Japanese counterparts. The Japanese diet is rich in whole grains, vegetables, soy products, and green tea.

Japanese women eat an average of three fish meals per week, with smaller, more selective portions, including raw fish. Compared to British women, Japanese women consume about 25% fewer calories. Experts suggest that using chopsticks also slows down eating speed, giving the body time to process what it's consuming and therefore leading to less food intake.

All of these factors combine to create a balanced diet that helps Japanese women live long and healthy lives until they are old and gray.
