(Baonghean.vn) - On the way to return the knife to his friend, Khanh had a conflict with a group of young men from a neighboring village. In the dark, Khanh swung the knife and stabbed two young men in the vital parts, causing them to die. On the day of the trial, the young defendant revealed the motive for the crime, which surprised many people.

Night fight, 2 young men died

One day at the end of June, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a trial for defendant Lu Van Khanh (20 years old), residing in Chau Hoi commune, Quy Chau district, for the crime of murder. Khanh was escorted to the courtroom early. Wearing a prisoner's uniform, Khanh's face was still young. At the time of the murder, which left 2 people dead.deathKhanh is only 19 years old.

During the entire day of the trial, the defendant clearly stated his criminal behavior. The defendant stated that at about 2:00 a.m. on August 12, 2022, he and a group of friends organized a pick-up for a friend who was working far away and met a group of young people from Chau Nga commune, Quy Chau district.

In the group of young men from the neighboring village, there were Lu Van S. and Nguyen Van H. Because S.'s motorbike ran out of gas, the group of young men asked Khanh's group for gas but they didn't have any. Then, S. borrowed Khanh's gas suction tool.

It seemed that the story of two groups of young men accidentally meeting on the street would end there, but after S. returned the borrowed item, the two sides had a conflict over asking for gasoline. Lu Van S. rushed in and punched Khanh and his friend. Being beaten, Khanh fought back and was stopped by everyone to talk to each other.

But at this time, H. used a belt to wrap around Khanh's chest and neck, making it difficult for the young man to breathe, so he spoke up, "I respect you guys very much, don't do that." Khanh also took out a knife and asked, "Don't overdo it," but was still beaten, causing a fight between the two sides.

Khanh took a knife and stabbed H., causing him to collapse on the street and die. Then, after being kicked by S., Khanh slashed him in the back, causing him to collapse and die. Authorities determined that the two victims died from wounds that punctured their hearts. In addition, Khanh also injured two other young men.

After stabbing and injuring many people, Khanh threw the knife into the river and went home to tell his mother about the fight. Khanh's mother advised him to turn himself in, but before she could do so, the police arrested him.

The murder defendant's statement

Responding to questions from the jury, defendant Khanh admitted to causing the deaths of the two victims but said the cause of the incident was the victim's group that started the fight. The defendant said that S. beat him for no reason when he returned to return the borrowed gas. "At that time, the defendant was standing looking at his phone with his girlfriend when S. ran up and kicked him. The defendant was very shocked and did not understand why he was beaten like that," Khanh told the court.

Defendant Khanh said that he was surrounded and beaten, so he was panicked and agitated. He said that he defended himself with the desire to escape the pursuit by any means, not with the intention of killing. He also disagreed with the Nghe An Provincial People's Procuracy's prosecution of the crime of hooliganism, because according to Khanh, "he only defended himself when he was beaten by S.'s group."

Khanh stated in court that he had never had any conflicts with anyone before. This was the first time he was beaten, so he was very scared. When he was surrounded and beaten, he swung his knife wildly, not knowing who he hit or where on his body. He only thought of doing everything he could to escape the victims' attacks. However, when the judge asked him, "Why did he swing his knife wildly, causing the victims to be hit in vital parts of their bodies and not survive?", he could not explain.

Regarding the knife used in the crime, Khanh stated that when he was working as a factory worker in Bac Ninh, he lived with a friend. While hanging out, he took the knife out to peel fruit. Because he had mistakenly taken it back home, he intended to return it to his friend that day. The defendant expressed remorse and asked the court to consider a lighter sentence because of his young age. Representatives of the victims attended the court and requested that the defendant be tried according to the law.

In the presence of a large number of people attending the trial, the jury reminded everyone to stay calm in all matters of life. Here, two groups of young people who did not know each other met on the street and because of a small conflict, a fight broke out, leading to a tragic outcome.

Considering that in this case, the defendant had many mitigating circumstances such as honestly confessing, repenting, influencing the family to partially compensate the victim for civil matters, the family had contributed to the revolution; the victim was also partly at fault, therefore the panel sentenced defendant Lu Van Khanh to life in prison for murder.

Just turned twenty, but Khanh had to bury his life behind bars to pay the price for murder. The sentence for the defendant is also a valuable lesson for other young people, do not use violence to resolve conflicts.
