Reuters reported on February 27 that police officer Wan Azirul Nizam Che Wan Aziz, head of the investigation team into the murder of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, told the court that Kim Jong-nam had told a friend in Malaysia that his life was in danger six months before he was murdered.

Mr Wan Azirul said Mr Kim Jong-nam arrived in Malaysia on February 6 last year and was picked up at the airport by a friend's driver named Tomie Yoshio.

During a previous visit to Malaysia, Mr. Kim told Yoshio that his life was in danger.

Police officer Wan Azirul cited police interviews with Yoshio and said: "Six months before the murder on February 13, Kim Jong-nam said 'I was very scared for my life and I wanted a driver'."

However, Mr. Wan Azirul did not release any further information about Yoshio or his whereabouts.

Regarding the motive for the crime, Wan Azirul agreed with the lawyer of Siti Aisyah, the Indonesian suspect in the case, when he said that the two female suspects, Vietnamese and Indonesian, did not have a motive for the murder, but rejected accusations that the police investigation was "unbalanced."

Defense lawyers previously said the women thought they were playing a prank on television, as they were paid to do so at the airport and shopping mall, unaware they were poisoning Mr. Kim.

These two female suspects will face the death penalty if convicted./.
