Revealing the upcoming US Patriot super missile
The US Patriot missile will have improved fire control technology, radar systems, flight software and target tracking capabilities to be able to destroy enemy fighter jets, drones and battlefield ballistic missiles.
The Pentagon has awarded Lockheed Martin a contract extension to further develop these technological advances for the Patriot missile. The contract modification includes engineering services for the Patriot missile's phased array radar intercept capability, known as PAC-3 MSE. "The PAC-3 MSE program includes flight control software, subsystem modifications and upgrades, production and calibration planning, and full integration support for the Patriot system," according to Lockheed.

Late last year, a US Patriot missile successfully intercepted a simulated battlefield ballistic missile target in a test to test new guidance technology developed for the weapon.
Patriot is an advanced "hit-to-kill" surface-to-air missile designed to eliminate incoming threats and protect ground forces, buildings and other assets.
The Patriot can be used to destroy approaching threats at close range such as drones, cruise missiles and even manned enemy fighter jets. At the same time, this missile can also destroy long-range ballistic missile targets.
The Patriot missile has been upgraded several times since it entered service in the early 1980s. Patriot is currently deployed in at least 13 countries around the world, including five NATO countries. Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, and Boeing are involved in the development and production of the Patriot missile.
