According to the investigation, at around 5:00 p.m. on December 8, Phan Son Tung (born in 1989, residing in Group 5, Dak Ha Town, Kon Tum Province) along with Tran Van Bac and some others drank alcohol at the house of Bui Ngoc Tuyen (born in 1989, residing in Group 4B, Dak Ha Town, Kon Tum Province). After that, the group organized a card game with the purpose of buying bait to continue drinking. While playing cards, Bac and Tung got into a fight, but were stopped by everyone so both left.

At around 8:30 p.m. the same day, Tung called Bac to challenge him to a fight and returned home to get a machete and hide it on the side of Pham Van Hung's house (TDP 3B, Dak Ha town). After that, Tung called Bac to meet at the Dak Ha district bus station and asked Hung to take him to the bus station area, while Tuyen and Thu drove the car to chase after him.

Upon arriving, seeing Bac holding a machete, Tung got out of the car, grabbed the knife and rushed to slash Bac. During the scuffle, Tran Van Bac used the machete (90cm long, sharp blade) to cut off half of Phan Xuan Tung's left hand and 3 fingers on his right hand. After being stopped, Bac left, while Tung was taken by Tuyen to the district medical center for emergency treatment and then transferred to Cho Ray Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City.

Bac fled until December 22 when he turned himself in to the police. The police are continuing to investigate and handle the case.
