Alcohol:According to the US Department of Health and Human Services' report on carcinogens, about 3.5% of cancer deaths in the US in 2009 (about 19,500 people) were alcohol-related. Another report said that people who consume about one-third to half a bottle of wine a day have a two to three times higher risk of developing head and neck cancer than non-drinkers.
Cigarette:IARC classifies tobacco as a cause of lung, bladder and lip cancer as well as stomach, liver and kidney cancer. Tobacco kills about 6 million people each year (according to the World Health Organization).
Ultraviolet lamp:Exposure to ultraviolet lamps or sunbathing causes malignant melanoma. The longer the exposure, the greater the risk, especially for people under 30 years old.
Air pollution:Outdoor air pollution was added to the list of carcinogens in 2013. IARC said there was sufficient evidence to say that exposure to air pollution causes lung cancer and increases the risk of bladder cancer.
