Effectiveness of border defense economic zones

(Baonghean.vn) - On December 24th, the 4th Military Region Command held a workshop to summarize the tasks of building National Defense Economic Zones and organizing National Defense Economic Units from 1998 to 2015.

Over more than 15 years of developing the National Defense Economic Zone, the Party Committee and the Command of Military Region 4 have focused on leading and directing the National Defense Economic Units to actively and proactively exploit and integrate various sources of capital, resulting in the implementation value reaching 42.46% of the total investment.

To date, in the national defense economic zones, the electricity, road, school, and medical station systems have developed significantly; a commodity economy is gradually being formed; people's lives are gradually improving, and culture and healthcare have been noticeably enhanced; the poverty rate has decreased from 75% to 42% (according to the old criteria); and political security in the national defense economic zones and border areas has been consolidated and strengthened.

At the workshop, delegates unanimously agreed on the goal of establishing defense economic zones in the coming period, and also agreed to propose that the Ministry of National Defense transfer the 92nd, 4th, and 5th defense economic units to the direct control of the Military Region Command; study adjustments to staffing and organization; and allocate annual investment capital appropriately for the projects...
