Effectiveness of Project 2059 in Quynh Long (Quynh Luu)
(Baonghean) - Quynh Long commune (Quynh Luu district) is a locality with a famous traditional seafood fishing industry, boasting a fleet of over 170 boats, including many of the largest vessels in Nghe An province. To enhance fishing efficiency, the men who go to sea have "relied on each other," forming 15 cooperatives for fishing and protecting fishing grounds. On shore, the Women's Association of the commune has also established a cooperative to help women find stable jobs and sustainably alleviate poverty. The cooperative has 30 members and operates in diverse sectors, from purchasing seafood, salting, making dried squid, buying crabs to small-scale trading.
The idea originated from Project 2059 on "Propagating and supporting women in coastal and religious areas to participate in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction" of the Provincial Women's Union, and the Quynh Long Women's Union was selected as a pilot project. The Standing Committee of the Union reported to the Commune Party Committee and advised on the development of Plan No. 5/2014 for implementation, selecting 20 models for investment and loan support. 20 women each received a loan of 20 million VND to support investment in their businesses. To date, many effective models have emerged, such as the seafood purchasing facility of Ms. Ngo Thi Nao in Dai Bac hamlet; the frozen and steamed fish processing workshop of Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong in Thanh Cong hamlet; and the fishing gear trading facility of Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung in Dai Tan hamlet…
The Chairwoman of the Women's Association of Hoang Thi Hien commune shared: “Besides supporting low-interest loans, the cooperative also organizes savings to create a fund for members to borrow, with each person saving 500,000 VND per quarter. To date, the savings in the cooperative have reached 70,860,000 VND, which has been used to provide loans to 51 women in the commune to develop their businesses. Savings funds are also organized at the branch level, with the highest fund at 80 million VND and the lowest at 18 million VND.” Thanks to the effective capital from this meaningful program, many women in Quynh Long have achieved stable production, creating jobs for many other women. As a result, life in this coastal village is vibrant and harmonious; women no longer wait for their husbands' and sons' fishing boats to return from the sea, but instead actively support each other in developing services and building happy families…
