The effectiveness of restructuring crop and livestock production in Quynh Di.

(Baonghean.vn) - Implementing the thematic resolution on restructuring crop and livestock production to develop agriculture, in recent years, people in Quynh Di ward (Hoang Mai town) have boldly invested in and introduced many new plant and animal varieties into production, bringing high economic efficiency. Among these, the most prominent are the models of confined cattle farming and fish-rice farming.

Recognizing the effectiveness, safety, and ease of care in raising beef cattle using rapid fattening methods, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phan from Yen Trung Hamlet, Quynh Di Ward, decided to build a large-scale farm. Initially, she renovated her garden land to build three rows of barns and increased the herd to 15 cattle per breeding cycle. After selling the beef cattle, she invested in buying lean or young cattle for further fattening. As a result, she earns a profit of approximately 200 million VND per year after deducting expenses.

The model of raising and fattening cattle in confinement implemented by Ms. Nguyen Thi Phan's family generates an income of nearly 200 million VND per year.

Meanwhile, the family of Mr. Dau Sy Tam chose to practice intercropping fish in rice paddies in the Dap Coi area. With over 1 hectare of land, he initially raised only a few tilapia. After harvesting the rice, seeing that the fish grew quickly and in large numbers, he added more carp, crucian carp, and grass carp. Fish raised in rice paddies, thanks to their natural food source, are flavorful and fetch a good price. This fish-rice farming system offers a double benefit: the fish eat rice pests, stir up the mud, eliminate weeds, and provide fertilizer for the rice, resulting in significantly higher rice yields, reaching nearly 3.5 quintals per sao (approximately 1000 square meters). On average, he harvests nearly 7 tons of rice and over 1 ton of fish annually, earning nearly 100 million VND.

Furthermore, the Party Committee and People's Committee of the ward have implemented many solutions to invest in intensive farming of the existing shrimp farming area. With 85 hectares of whiteleg shrimp farming, producing 520 tons per year, the ward has built a model of linkage and joint venture between shrimp farming households in the areas of production protection, environmental protection, application of scientific and technical advancements, and support in capital and human resources to help each other develop. As a result, the average shrimp yield reaches over 6 tons/ha, bringing significant income to farming households.

To facilitate high efficiency in shrimp farming, the Farmers' Association of the ward, in coordination with the Community Learning Center and the Town's Agricultural Extension Station, has organized 23 training courses to disseminate new scientific and technical knowledge to over 1,600 people, and 7 vocational training courses for 220 workers. Currently, the shrimp farming area of ​​Quynh Di has received investment from the World Bank's coastal resource protection project to develop infrastructure for the farming area to establish a VietGAP-certified farming zone.

Mr. Ho Sy Ha, Secretary of the Party Committee of Quynh Di Ward, said: Although the ward's strength is not agricultural production, thanks to the transformation of crop and livestock structures to suit the actual conditions, the socio-economic development of Quynh Di continues to be stable. For areas of low-yield rice land and high-lying land, the local authorities advise people to switch to growing tobacco and aquaculture. Regarding livestock farming, people are encouraged to develop family farm models.

The restructuring of crop and livestock production in Quynh Di ward has made a positive contribution to the transformation of the local agricultural economy, gradually increasing people's income. As a result, the ward's average economic growth rate over the past five years reached 16.3%, people's income reached nearly 25 million VND/person/year (a 2.19-fold increase compared to 2010), and the poverty rate decreased to 4%.
