The effectiveness of the reverse flow water filter model

(Baonghean)From the beginning of 2011 until now, Chau Quang commune (Quy Hop district, Nghe An province) has widely implemented a clean water program for all 25 hamlets and villages using the reverse flow water filtration tank model.

The reverse flow water filtration method is simple, inexpensive, easy to implement, and just as effective as high-end water filters currently on the market. To implement this reverse flow water filtration system, people only need to invest a little over 1 million VND to buy the tanks. Ms. Vi Thi Quang from Ban Con hamlet said: "Our family received support from the program with 3 cement tanks, including 1 water storage tank, 1 water filter tank, and 1 filtered water storage tank. We were also guided on assembly techniques and the use of filter materials such as gravel, charcoal, and clean sand... From having to travel very far to fetch water for daily use because the water source in the village was heavily polluted, now our family feels very secure with the program's water filter tanks. After filtration, the water is clean and clear."

"Many households now have access to clean water from reverse-flow filtration systems, eliminating the need to carry water from distant sources," said Ms. Vo Thi Xuan, an officer in charge of implementing the clean water program for the village, under the Chau Quang Commune People's Committee. She added: "Currently, the entire commune is implementing the program while also encouraging people to try to filter water using this method. Many households in the commune, although not yet receiving support from the program, have independently purchased filtration tanks. Currently, the program has been fully implemented in 5 out of 25 hamlets and villages in the commune. In the future, it will be expanded throughout the area."

Chau Quang is one of the communes with the most severely polluted water sources in Quy Hop district, especially after the annual floods. Therefore, the people of Chau Quang are eagerly awaiting the program, through all possible means such as supporting the provision of cement tanks; providing technical advice and guidance; and encouraging people to voluntarily implement measures without relying on or waiting, so that every household in the commune can use clean water, ensuring long-term health in the face of increasingly severe water pollution in the area.
