During the October Revolution, on November 7, 1917, revolutionary soldiers under the command of leader Lenin attacked the Winter Palace, overthrew the provisional bourgeois government, and took power into the hands of the workers. After the revolution succeeded, the palace was used as a meeting hall for the revolutionary government. From 1918 to 1922, the palace was gradually transferred to the State Hermitage Museum.
