Coach Park Hang-seo keeps unbeaten record in Southeast Asia

The Vietnamese team is becoming fearsome under coach Park Hang-seo. According to statistics, since the Korean coach took charge, the Vietnamese team has never lost to any representative in the Southeast Asian region. In the two clashes with Thailand, the Red team won 1 and drew 1.

Statistics show that in 30 matches played, the national team and U22 Vietnam have won 24 matches and drawn 6 matches in all competitions, from friendly to official. Coach Park led the Vietnamese teams to win against most opponents in the region, except Timor-Leste because they have not had the opportunity to face each other.

And recently in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, with 17 points, the Vietnamese team officially surpassed Thailand to set a record for the number of points of a Southeast Asian representative. In the history of Southeast Asian football, the Thai team is the only team to have participated in the final qualifying round of the World Cup twice in 2002 and 2018.

Specifically, in the 2002 World Cup, Thailand defeated opponents Lebanon, Sri Lanka and Pakistan to finish the second qualifying round at the top of the table with 16 points. In the 2018 World Cup qualifiers, the "War Elephants" under coach Kiatisak repeated this achievement when they got 14 points and won the right to continue in the final qualifying round. The 16 points that Thailand has achieved is also the best achievement of Southeast Asia in the World Cup qualifiers. However, up to now, the Vietnamese team under the leadership of coach Park Hang-seo has officially "dethroned" to set a new record.

Entering the final stage of the second qualifying round as the group leader, as one of the 5 second-placed teams with the best results (after 8 matches, the Vietnamese team won 5, drew 2 and lost 1, scoring 13 goals, conceding only 5 goals).

Losing the top spot in Group G to the UAE (18 points), Vietnam (17 points) still won the right to enter the final qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup in Asia. This is the first time Vietnamese football has achieved this feat.
