Coach Shin Tae-yong: "Tomorrow's match will be very difficult for the Indonesian team"
Coach Shin Tae-yong said that tomorrow's match against the Vietnamese team will be a very difficult match for Indonesia, as his team is facing many disadvantages.
On the afternoon of December 14, the press conference before the match between Vietnam and Indonesia at the ASEAN Cup 2024 took place.
Opening the press conference, coach Shin Tae-yong of the Indonesian team shared, “We have a tight schedule at the ASEAN Cup 2024. First, the team played away in Myanmar, then returned home to host Laos and now are in Vietnam.
The Indonesian team has a very difficult match tomorrow against host Vietnam, not only for the players but also for the coaching staff. The team is mainly made up of U20 players, so they lack international competition experience, but this is an experience for them, to improve and enhance their skills. We will try our best to get the best results."
Commenting on the match against the Vietnamese team, the Korean strategist said: “The Vietnamese team has an advantage because most of the players are key players in the national team and have a lot of international experience. Indonesia has many age groups and most of the players are young.
Our goal is to prepare for the 2025 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers, so I hope the young players gain experience through matches like this. As I said, Indonesia has a long journey through 3 matches, so hopefully the players will have a good performance in tomorrow's match."
Coach Shin Tae-yong said about his colleague on the Vietnamese team: “Coach Kim Sang-sik is my junior. We have 3 titles together so we are very close. In addition, I am also very close to the goalkeeper coach of the Vietnamese team. He was part of the Korean players participating in the World Cup.”
“We don’t have the best squad, but we still have quality players in the team so we will try our best. Indonesia has very good throw-in players, but we don’t know how many opportunities we will have to use that strength in the match. Our goal is to look forward to next year,” said coach Shin.
“Two days ago, after the match against Laos, we said that the AFF Cup should consider adjusting the match schedule to improve the quality of the matches and raise the level of the tournament. With the current format, travel is very difficult for the teams.
The Vietnamese team has the advantage of a match schedule, more rest time, and a more experienced squad, but we are aiming for the 2026 World Cup finals and youth tournaments next year," coach Shin Tae-yong concluded.
