December 2, 2015 20:29

Coach Toshiya Miura affirmed that his and U23 Vietnam's goal is to be in the top 8 of Asia at the upcoming 2016 U23 Asian Cup finals in Qatar. Mr. Miura also did not have to answer many questions related to HAGL players.

HLV Miura muốn vào tốp 8 châu Á cùng U23 Việt Nam.
Coach Miura wants to enter the top 8 of Asia with U23 Vietnam.

Coach Miura declared: “When I joined the tournament, I always set a goal for myself. This AFC U23 Championship is the first time we have passed the qualifying round. It was a surprise. When I attend the finals, I want to continue to create more surprises.

We are the lowest rated team among the 16 teams so the goal must be very specific and clear. For now, my specific goal is the quarter-finals."

The head coach of the Vietnam U23 team also refused to give his own assessment of the HAGL players and appeared quite satisfied with the training schedule of the Vietnam U23 team: "The preparation plan for this tournament was not made by me alone but was discussed with the VFF leadership.

According to the plan, we tried to contact strong opponents such as U23 teams of other countries. But the problem is that those U23 teams are very busy, have their own plans and do not agree to come to Vietnam.

We have targeted other opponents in the Asian Cup finals except UAE, Jordan and Australia.

Therefore, we had to contact 3 opponents from Japan. In addition, we are also lucky to have a friendly match with U23 Japan on January 7 in Doha. They are a very strong opponent. The remaining 3 teams are enough for us in the preparation process."

Talking about the absence of Que Ngoc Hai, Mr. Miura admitted: “I am very sorry about Que Ngoc Hai’s case. At the recent SEA Games, he was the captain of U23 Vietnam, a very important player.

The current situation is also very difficult for Que Ngoc Hai himself and the VFF leadership. The VFF leadership has also made a decision on this matter and I respect that decision of the leadership.

The Japanese strategist also revealed that he and VFF have not prepared for the contract negotiation process: “My contract with VFF will end next April but we have not yet discussed the contract extension with each other.

Everything will still go on as per the contract. For now, whether my contract ends or is renewed, I will still do my best and fulfill my responsibilities while I still have a contract to lead Vietnamese football."
