Speaking at a press conference before the final match of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, coach Gerald Vanenburg of U23 Indonesia said the team had prepared carefully for the match against U23 Vietnam.
On the afternoon of July 28, the press conference before the final match of the U23 Southeast Asian tournament took place.
Opening the press conference, head coach Gerald Vanenburg of Indonesia U23 highly appreciated the use of VAR in the upcoming match, he said that this technology should be applied earlier in the tournament: "Tomorrow, VAR will be used and that is necessary for a final match. In fact, VAR should appear in previous matches because there are many situations that need support from this technology".

When asked about the fitness of the three pillars Jens, Arkhan and Toni, coach Gerald Vanenburg said the team is still monitoring and evaluating the players' physical condition: "We will conduct the last official training session and only use the players with the best physical condition. Tomorrow, the whole team will have a light training session at the hotel. The medical team will check carefully to determine who is fit to play."
Although hoping that key players will recover in time, the Dutch coach also affirmed that U23 Indonesia has a replacement plan.

After defeating U23 Thailand in a penalty shootout in the semi-final, coach Gerald Vanenburg expressed confidence if a similar scenario occurs in the final: “We are not worried if we have to enter a penalty shootout with U23 Vietnam. The most important thing when taking a penalty is spirit. The player who is confident will be selected. The U23 Indonesia players did very well against U23 Thailand, so I have complete confidence.”
At the end of the press conference, coach Gerald Vanenburg affirmed that the whole team was ready for the decisive match.
The final match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Indonesia will take place at 8:00 p.m. on July 29. This is the most anticipated match of the tournament, promising lots of drama and emotion./.
