U23 Philippines Coach: ''We have a plan to deal with U23 Vietnam''
Before the semi-final match of the U23 Asian Cup, coach Jason McPherson affirmed that U23 Philippines had carefully studied the playing style and had a plan to deal with the strengths of U23 Vietnam.
On the afternoon of July 24, in Indonesia, before the semi-final match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Philippines at the U23 Asian Cup, coach Jason McPherson and midfielder John Lucero had a meeting with the media. Both expressed confidence and optimism about the opportunity to create a surprise against a highly rated opponent.
Coach McPherson said the team is in good spirits and is well prepared for the crucial match. We are fine. In the group stage, we played three games and had a day off. The whole country is behind us, which makes the players happy and excited for the semi-final.

From a team that was not highly rated at the beginning of the tournament, the U23 Philippines has made significant progress. The Australian strategist shared: “Initially, we were among the teams that were underestimated. But with each match, the whole team played more unitedly and more confidently. Being in the semi-finals is great. My players love their country, love football, and they understand that they are receiving great support from their home country. I am very proud of what the team has achieved so far.”
In that emotional journey, players like Banatao and Mariona left a clear mark. Mr. McPherson said: “They are players who have played internationally, have experience at the AFF Cup, and have contributed greatly to the team reaching the semi-finals. They possess good tactical thinking, excellent dribbling skills. However, I believe that in my squad, all 23 players have quality and can make a difference.”

Speaking about the opponent U23 Vietnam, coach McPherson gave much praise to the strength and organization of the "Golden Star Warriors": "U23 Vietnam has many goals from set pieces, always prepares carefully, and has many players who have played for the national team as well as in the national championship. We have a plan to prevent those set pieces. Let's wait and see how we will neutralize this powerful weapon of Vietnam".

Also at the press conference, midfielder John Lucero expressed his confidence ahead of the important match: “U23 Vietnam is a strong team, but we focus on preparation and compliance with tactics. We always try our best in every tournament. We believe in the team's ability, and always aim to reach the semi-finals, even the final. I think we deserve more recognition and respect.”
The semi-final match between U23 Vietnam and U23 Philippines will take place at 4:00 p.m. on July 25./.
