Coach Vu Quang Bao: One-time 'leader' of SLNA
(Baonghean.vn) - It would be wrong to talk about the "once-famous" players of Nghe An football without mentioning former striker Vu Quang Bao.
Born in 1955 in Nghe An, Vu Quang Bao is a product of Military Zone 4. During his playing days, Mr. Bao "hook" played as a striker. After playing for Military Zone 4 (2 periods) and The Cong, at the beginning of the 1987 season, Vu Quang Bao joined Song Lam Nghe Tinh (the old name of SLNA). Few people know that the SLNA Board of Directors had to go all the way to Tu Son Sports School (Bac Ninh), where Mr. Vu Quang Bao was studying, to convince the former striker from Nghia Dan to return to the field in the colors of his hometown team.

Having just arrived at Vinh Stadium, Mr. Vu Quang Bao was assigned by former coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh to take on the role of captain (along with former defender Bui Dinh Dai). This had never happened before at the Nghe An team. Since its establishment (1979), SLNA has always chosen the best defender as captain, typically the former famous player Ha Thin. Through this, it can be seen how great Mr. Vu Quang Bao's talent and prestige are.

Also according to former coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh, in the period 1986 - 1991, SLNA was just a young team when it was "ranked together" with big names such as The Cong, Saigon Port, Hai Quan... However, the Nghe An team never had to leave the highest league of Vietnamese football (A1/Strong Teams League). All of this came from the efforts of former coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh and his team, and Mr. Bao "khoam" was one of the most meritorious faces, thanks to his talent and valuable experience after years of fighting in the colors of Military Zone 4 and The Cong.
After leaving the football field, Mr. Bao "khoam" decided to take coaching courses. In the past, Coach Vu Quang Bao led many teams in different divisions of Vietnamese football. From Military Zone 4, Navibank Saigon, Lam Dong, Quang Nam, Can Tho (4 times) to Thanh Hoa (2 times), in the First Division or V.League, the strategist born in 1955 has more or less achieved success (winning the National First Division in 2009 and 2013 with Military Zone 4 and Quang Nam). Currently, Mr. Vu Quang Bao is "enjoying the countryside", after the ups and downs with football./.
