He started raising spiny soft-shell turtles in 2005 with a pond area of 30 square meters and 30 small spiny soft-shell turtles. In 2007, seeing that breeding spiny soft-shell turtles for reproduction brought high economic efficiency and stability, his family boldly built more ponds and invested in 4 more pairs of parent soft-shell turtles (1 pair includes 1 male, 2 females).

Due to lack of experience and not fully understanding the characteristics of spiny softshell turtles, he encountered many difficulties in breeding them, and in some cases even lost money.
But each time he failed, he found out the reason and learned from his experience. After 2 years of raising spiny softshell turtles with many ups and downs, the profession of raising spiny softshell turtles for reproduction became stable and brought income to the family.
With experience in hand and seeing that raising spiny soft-shell turtles is not too hard, the output is quite stable and brings high income, so every year, his family continues to invest in building new breeding areas.
Up to now, the area of raising spiny soft-shell turtles in his family is 2,500m2 with 100 pairs of parent soft-shell turtles (1 pair currently includes 1 male and 3 females). With this number of parent soft-shell turtles, each year they lay over 10,000 eggs, incubate and sell over 9,000 young turtles at an average price of 110,000 VND/squid. The total annual income from breeding spiny soft-shell turtles of the family is 1 billion VND, after deducting expenses, the profit is about 800 million VND.

According to his experience, to keep turtles healthy and disease-free, it is necessary to pay attention to properly treating the water source, pond and food for turtles. The water source must be clean and properly regulated, the food source must be fresh, and the amount of food must be regularly checked to avoid overfeeding, which will lead to pollution of the pond environment, making turtles susceptible to fungal diseases, bacterial ulcers, swollen necks, etc.
It is known that Van Chan district currently has over 500 households raising spiny soft-shell turtles, mainly concentrated in Tran Phu farm town with 252 households, and Cat Thinh commune with 157 households./.
