Nearly 6,000 tons of rice were donated to four provinces to alleviate hunger among the population.

The Prime Minister instructed the Ministry of Finance to release (free of charge) 5,953 tons of rice from the national reserve to support four provinces: Ninh Binh, Son La, Yen Bai, and Binh Thuan, to alleviate hunger among the people during the Lunar New Year and the lean season of 2013.

Specifically, the aid included 1,013 tons of rice for Ninh Binh province, 3,504 tons for Son La province, 430 tons for Yen Bai province, and 1,006 tons for Binh Thuan province.

The People's Committees of the provinces shall use the allocated rice to provide timely and appropriate assistance to the people in need of famine relief. In cases where difficulties persist, the People's Committees of the provinces shall report to the Prime Minister for consideration of further assistance.

Previously, the Prime Minister directed the Ministry of Finance to release (free of charge) over 33,000 tons of rice from the national reserve to support 15 localities: Cao Bang, Quang Ngai, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Quang Binh, Kon Tum, Binh Dinh, Lao Cai, Phu Yen, Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam, Lai Chau, Dak Lak, and Ha Nam to alleviate hunger for the people during the Lunar New Year and the lean season of 2013.
