In 2012, Huong Giang registered to participate in Vietnam Idol and was the first transgender contestant of this competition. After being awarded a ticket to the final round, she received media attention when she received great support from the audience and continuously surpassed formidable opponents despite her not-so-outstanding voice. Huong Giang entered the top 4 finalists. This was the competition that marked Huong Giang's first steps in Vietnamese showbiz. After leaving Vietnam Idol 2012, she actively pursued musical activities. |

In October 2013, Huong Giang released her debut album with the theme 'Mercury'. Through this product, she wants to affirm that she is different but dares to make efforts to realize her dream. The female singer in nearly 1 year since leaving Vietnam Idol 2012 until the release of her debut album, she has made great efforts to improve her beauty and singing voice. In March 2014, Huong Giang released her autobiography 'I Draw My Portrait'. In this book, she frankly mentioned gender issues as well as her own views on life. Her transgender journey was described in detail. Images of Huong Giang when she was still a boy were also revealed in this book. At that time, she shared: "It is still too early for me to write a memoir or an autobiography, those concepts are very far away from me, so in this small book, I simply tell my little story, with what I can remember, what has been my memories. I have only lived a short part of my life but have experienced great changes, I think I should also tell it, as a way to share with people in the same situation as me, or with others so that sympathy can be spread." |

In September 2014, Huong Giang became the champion of the 'Amazing Race' contest with Criss Lai. At that time, Huong Giang and Criss Lai were lovers. After the contest, Huong Giang and Criss Lai often appeared together at events. However, in early 2016, they confirmed their breakup because they could not find common ground in their relationship. |

In June 2016, the transgender singer was caught up in a scandal when a recording allegedly of Huong Giang Idol insulting Lam Khanh Chi appeared online. Lam Khanh Chi also accused her "junior" of letting fans make rude comments on her Facebook. Sharing about this on her personal page, Huong Giang said she did not speak out against Lam Khanh Chi because: "If only it sounded a little more like me, I would speak up, but if it sounds like a joke like that, why speak up because no one will believe it. I'm busy." She affirmed that she was not jealous or angry with Lam Khanh Chi. |

In August 2016, Huong Giang released an 18+ MV called 'Em khong hoi toi' with many hot scenes with her male co-star. This MV was later requested by the authorities to be examined because it was believed to contain images that were not in accordance with public morality. Therefore, Huong Giang had to stay up 3 nights with the crew to edit the MV to comply with the regulations of the Department of Performing Arts. |

In early May 2017, Huong Giang received fierce criticism from the public for using rude words towards artist Trung Dan in the program 'Superstar Guessing Words'. Artist Trung Dan once shared that he felt shocked and deeply offended by Huong Giang's statement. |

The incident was so noisy that Huong Giang had to organize a press conference. She cried and shared that she did not intend to offend the older artist. In January 2018, Huong Giang confirmed that she would be the sole representative of Vietnam at the Miss International Queen 2018 pageant. This is the largest beauty pageant for transgender beauties around the world, held annually in Thailand. Previously, Vietnam had never had a representative at this pageant. However, Huong Giang was still supported by the Department of Performing Arts to compete. |
