Miss Do Thi Ha speaks out about 'sensitive' statements in the past

- How did you feel when you were crowned Miss Vietnam 2020?

As soon as the organizers announced my name as the winner, I froze for 10 seconds. I was completely in disbelief and could hardly imagine receiving the result.

Just tonight, I was still a contestant but the next morning I became Miss. My life has truly turned a new page with a great responsibility.

- After the coronation, the work schedule will be very busy, do you feel tired and how do you prepare for the new pressures?

With the current schedule, it is inevitable that I and everyone else will be tired. However, when we think about our responsibilities in our new positions and upcoming projects, we have more energy to continue our journey.

Many people who win will meet their relatives to celebrate. On the night of the competition, my parents also came to Saigon to cheer and sat very close. However, because they were busy answering interviews and interacting with everyone, there was almost no chance to meet my family.

As soon as I got back to my room, I called my parents to share my joy. I can’t wait to get home to meet them and thank them for their support throughout my time in the competition.

- As the competition drew closer to its end, Do Thi Ha was continuously considered a strong candidate in the newspapers and was highly appreciated by experts. How did you receive this information?

Immediately after the examFashion Beauty and Beach Beauty, everyone commented that I had made significant progress in performance and stage presence. That gave me a lot of motivation to strive to improve myself in the next rounds.

I consider the fact that people predict and give me a lot of compliments as encouragement, but I cannot be subjective because of that. I understand that I have to try my best to have the best performance.

- Do Thi Ha once shared that she had to save money to compete, was that process too difficult for a 19-year-old girl? For you, is competing in a beauty pageant a step to change your life?

Actually, saving money is not too difficult. I only saved for 2-3 months to prepare for the preliminary round. Since I have been an independent person since childhood, I do not want to share too much.

Even before I reached the semi-finals, I didn’t tell my parents. Everything was easy, not stressful or too difficult. When I reached the semi-finals, I shared and my father cried a lot. Perhaps those tears are the motivation that helps me to try until today.

The beauty born in 2001 was radiant throughout the meeting despite having just gone through a day with a busy schedule.

- After being crowned, your past "sensitive" comments were brought up again. Many people said the new Miss was not worthy because her words lacked standards. What do you think?

People say I look older than my age, but sometimes I realize that my soul is still young and innocent. Back then, I was still very carefree, whenever I was sad I would share my feelings on social media. When I was happy, I used teenage, cheerful words to share my mood.

I don’t have the habit of deleting posts I’ve made on social media in the past, so the audience accidentally read them. Since being crowned Miss Vietnam 2020, I’ve been conscious of my actions and statements. I’m sure those words will no longer appear from now on.

- Many people think that beauty queens often have a safe image. Do you think you will break the mold or stay in your shell?

I think the image of a Miss must be beautiful, not only neat in clothes and hair but also beautiful in her own way, in every action, in the way she treats others. That is what makes the difference between this Miss and another.

I think the image of Miss is not safe because each one will develop their strengths in a different way. They will know how to take advantage of their advantages to leave an impression on the audience and complete their tasks well while in office.

Do Thi Ha shared: "Before, I was a pretty carefree girl so sometimes I had funny pictures and sayings.

- Many people commented that your performance in the final round was not really profound. If you had to answer, what would you say?

If I have the opportunity to answer the final round, I still want to maintain my point of view. Whether I become a role model for young people, specifically a role model for modern or traditional women, it must always be an inspirational role model. That is the role model that is meaningful and can last a long time.

- How would you behave when attacked by antifans?

As a public figure, it is natural that people will like and dislike you. What matters is how we receive those comments from the community.

Supporters are the source of motivation that helps me continue on the path ahead. Those who do not support me are not necessarily a bad thing, because they help me realize my shortcomings and those of others to overcome and learn from experience.
