Miss Giang My 'accuses' Huyen My's fan
Miss Hung Temple was shocked when reading the uncultured comments that the runner-up's fans sent to her.
After the Miss Grand International finale on October 25, Giang My and designer Sy Hoang spoke out to criticize Huyen My’s crying and unworthy performance as a representative of the host country. The statements of the two judges of Miss Grand International 2017 caused a controversial debate on social media.
Appearing at an event in Hanoi on the afternoon of November 5, Miss Hung Temple Giáng My spoke up to explain the noise. She said that all the comments she made about Huyen My were before the final round of the contest, but the audience misunderstood that she criticized the Vietnamese runner-up during the final night.

"Designer Sy Hoang and I feel pressured and tired because our positive comments are misunderstood as negative. Many viewers claiming to be Huyen My's fans have gone to my personal page to write uncultured words, even swearing vulgarly.
That shocked me because since I was a child, I have lived in a well-educated family and grown up in an environment that values traditional culture. In the past few days, I have chosen to stay silent and let the story go. I hope Huyen My's fans do not distort her image in the public eye," Giang My shared.
With over 10 years of being an advisor and judge for many beauty contests at home and abroad, Miss Hung Temple confidently believes that she has enough experience and ability to judge fairly and accurately. Before the final night of Miss Grand International, Giang My was interviewed by many newspapers about Huyen My's ability compared to many international competitors and she frankly gave her opinion.
She said: "It is a bit regrettable that I received many complaints about Huyen My from some members of the organizing committee such as claiming to be sick, appearing at the hotel in sloppy clothes, even wearing slippers, wearing a tank top... This is what many eyewitnesses told me. When the press asked about this issue, I said that maybe Huyen My is young, thinking simply that as long as she focuses on doing well on stage, she will score points.
However, our judges observe the contestants in their daily lives. After receiving the applications, we select potential candidates through body measurements, facial features, academic performance, achievements, etc. Through each public or private meeting, we also evaluate the contestants' natural beauty when they are not wearing makeup, and pay attention to their daily gestures, actions, and words. The audience can only see the contestants for a few minutes on stage, and they compliment whoever looks radiant and beautiful. However, the contestants on stage and in real life are completely different. Only the judges can realize that."

Huyen My was criticized by many people for her crying actions during the Miss Grand finale. |
Giang My is very proud to be one of three Vietnamese judges in the hot seat of Miss Grand International 2016. She has done her best in whatever favors she was given to Huyen My during the competition. She revealed that in the evening gown performance in the semi-final and final night, she gave Miss Vietnam 2014 a fairly high score, just behind a few other international contestants with stable performance.
In the bikini competition, she focused on the muscular aspect of each contestant's body because it represents the health and flexibility of a woman. Compared to other European and Latin American candidates, Huyen My was completely outclassed. "I feel sad because the audience criticized the 3 Vietnamese judges for being unfair. The competition has 10 judges, including 3 Vietnamese judges and 7 international judges. Therefore, even if we are 'magicians' with the ability to transform, we still cannot change the score," she said.
Regarding the statement "I don't even give the beauty queen award to my child", Giang My affirmed that she never said this, it was just a way for the press to create a misleading title. She considers Huyen My as her daughter, so she has contributed to help her improve herself, not with the intention of 'throwing stones'.
Giang My herself only had one contact with Huyen My during a charity event many years ago. At Miss Grand International 2017, even though Huyen My was eating in the same room with the Vietnamese judges, she did not come out to greet them. "I think she was shy about us, not that she was disrespectful," Giang My said.

Giang My hopes that after her sister's advice, Huyen My will become more mature. |
According to Miss Hung Temple, Huyen My's entry into the top 10 of Miss Grand International 2017 is 'a miracle for Vietnam': "Her team and the audience all expected her to achieve higher results. However, Huyen My may lack experience in the international beauty pageant, so she has not been able to fully develop her abilities. Hopefully, after this contest, she will become more mature, both intellectually and physically, so that when I meet her again, I will feel proud. Even though we are born as beautiful flowers, we still need to cut off the rotten leaves and water them with dew drops to make the flowers more sparkling," she sent a message to Huyen My.
Giang My also expressed that Miss Grand International 2017 being held in Vietnam is a valuable opportunity for organizers to learn from experience. "Vietnam is a young country and has not yet achieved high results in world beauty arenas, the training of contestants has just begun to become professional. Therefore, I think that the audience should look at the problem from a positive perspective so that the image of the country and Vietnamese people can be widely promoted, instead of paying attention to small details.
