Ngo Phuong Lan was born and raised in a family where both her paternal and maternal sides chose the path of studying and education to develop themselves and their careers. Since childhood, the beauty queen lived with her grandmother, and when she was 4 years old, she moved to the US. Ngo Phuong Lan's parents were diplomats, so she also shared that she often participated in events organized by her parents and met many politicians and celebrities.
During the period from 1999 to 2000, Ngo Phuong Lan returned to Vietnam to live and work. In the programConfession, she revealed that she never thought she would be a beauty queen, but at that time she participated because she wanted to experience and get to know friends all over the world. Many people looking at Ngo Phuong Lan's life and success think that she is very lucky, but Miss World Vietnam said: "Anyone looking at other people's lives feels enviable. But I think I am not too lucky. I also have advantages, but along with that are challenges. I am an introvert, but I have to become a beauty queen, I have to be active in public. So after turning off the stage lights, I just want to go home, to be in my private space. Moreover, I have too many expectations, which is also a burden."
Ngo Phuong Lan shared that she has her own fears that she has to overcome. "And the way to overcome that fear, for example, before going on stage, my heart always beats fast... At that time, there was a trick to professionalize it and see it as a job. I will follow the script, my expertise, then I will not have that fear anymore. That means I have to be responsible for my work. When I'm done, I can do whatever I want," she said.
After becoming a beauty queen, Ngo Phuong Lan spent time as a host for major events and programs on Vietnam Television. According to Ngo Phuong Lan, MC is a very interesting job. She has access to successful people who are very simple and have good philosophies of life, helping her mature and see life more clearly. But this is also a job with a lot of pressure because she has to stay up late and the next morning she has to be fresh and energetic to continue filming. There are programs that she has to finish in 3-4 days and is under a lot of pressure. While Ngo Phuong Lan herself is an introvert, she found this job unsuitable so she withdrew.
In 2013, Ngo Phuong Lan married her British boyfriend and now their daughter is 5 years old. Sharing on the programConfession,Miss World Vietnam 2007 said that she is always satisfied with what she has, never looking at what others have and wishing or wanting to have it at all costs. Currently, in addition to the joy of being a wife and mother, Ngo Phuong Lan continues to contribute to education and established a small personal fund with a friend to support about 40 students in remote areas so that they can complete their high school program. After that, these students have stable jobs and come back to help other children. And that is Ngo Phuong Lan's most practical contribution.
