Fierce fire at skyscraper in Russia

The fire that burned down the tallest skyscraper in Russia's North Caucasus region has been extinguished, but what it left behind was a towering ember.

This complex of high-rise, modern and luxurious buildings is called “The City”.Grozny”. One of the buildings caught fire yesterday and the fire was extinguished early this morning, around 1:30 a.m. local time.

The fire almost completely destroyed the 40-story building.

Initial reports suggest the fire started on the top floor, with the bottom floor also catching fire.

Everyone inside the 145m tower has been evacuated. Local police confirmed that no one was injured or killed.

It is estimated that nearly 300 people participated in extinguishing the fire.
