Prostitute beauty queen crowned in illegal contest
The two contests Miss Vietnam Fashion 2017 and Miss Vietnam Beauty 2017 were not licensed to be held in accordance with regulations.
On August 18, the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police is clarifying the prostitution brokerage behavior of Nguyen Thi Tien (born in 1984), Nguyen Thi Ngoc (born in 1986, Tien's younger sister, both from Long An) and Pham Thi Thanh Hien (born in 1985, from Quang Binh). These people are identified as being related to a high-class prostitution ring in Saigon.
Two of the three "madams" had won prizes in beauty contests. Pham Thi Thanh Hien was crowned Miss Fashion Vietnam 2017, and Nguyen Thi Ngoc was the runner-up in Miss Beauty Vietnam 2017. According to research, both contests were organized by BB Model Agency, headed by Mr. PT.
In an interview with Zing.vn on August 18, a representative of the Department of Performing Arts said that the two contests Miss Vietnam Fashion 2017 and Miss Vietnam Beauty 2017 were not licensed by the management unit. At that time, the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism conducted an inspection and requested that they not be held.
"The contestants who were awarded the titles of beauty queen and runner-up (if any) are invalid and do not comply with the law," the Department representative affirmed.
When contacting Mr. To Van Dong - Director of Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, he said he was abroad so he did not respond.

Pham Thi Thanh Hien was crowned Miss Fashion Vietnam 2017 in February 2017 in Hanoi. The criteria set by the organizers were to find a representative face for the modern beauty and intelligence of Vietnamese women in the new era. Besides Thanh Hien, Nguyen Thi Ngoc was the first runner-up of the Miss Vietnam Beauty Pageant 2017. After winning the title, she started her modeling career but did not participate in as many activities as Pham Thi Thanh Hien.
Contacting a journalist who is also a member of the jury of the Miss Vietnam Beauty Pageant 2017, this representative expressed surprise at the news of Nguyen Thi Ngoc’s arrest. “However, I think that personal matters have nothing to do with the contest,” this journalist said.
Meanwhile, the head of the organizing committee, Mr. PT, refused to comment on information related to the prostitution brokerage ring.
