Türkiye wants to buy at least 100 F-35 Lightning IIs. The purchase of these aircraft was made as part of the multinational F-35 development program under the auspices of the United States, which Ankara joined in 2002.
The US Congress had previously announced that it intended to suspend the supply of fighter jets to Türkiye over Ankara's plans to purchase Russia's S-400s.
Earlier, the transfer of Türkiye's first two F-35 aircraft was held at Lockheed Martin's facility in Fort Worth, Texas.
The F-35 aircraft delivered to Ankara will stay in the United States until November 2019 to train Turkish pilots, a representative of the Turkish Defense Industry Secretariat told Sputnik.
