Anti-aircraft firepower of Vietnamese warships
Vietnamese warships are all equipped with anti-aircraft artillery and missiles to protect the ships and destroy aerial targets (aircraft, anti-ship cruise missiles) at altitudes and distances of 10 km or less.
The Vietnamese Navy pays great attention to building an air defense network system for warships. Currently, we have typical systems such as: Ak-630 high-speed anti-aircraft artillery, Palma-SU automatic anti-aircraft artillery-missile system, AK-230 automatic anti-aircraft artillery,...

As a type of automatic anti-aircraft gun researched and developed by the Soviet Union since the 1960s, the Ak-630 is considered a standard weapon on most warships of the Russian Navy, Vietnam and many other countries.
According to Capital Security, the Ak-630 is installed on Vietnam's Gepard 3.9 frigates; Project 1241RE, 1241.8 and BSP-500 missile corvettes; Svetlyak patrol ship and even the modern domestic gunboat TT-400TP.
The Ak-630 gun is designed with 6 30mm barrels, allowing it to fire at a rate of 5,000 rounds/minute and an effective range of 5km. The latest version of the Ak-630 series with a multi-barrel system layout can fire 10,000 rounds/minute, tearing apart enemy missiles or aircraft. In air defense operations, the more bullets a gun fires, the more effective it is. It creates a dense firepower density with a high probability of hitting the target.
The Ak-630 high-speed gun with MR-123-02 fire control radar and SP-521 optical-electronic sighting complex are part of the A-213-Vympel-A low-altitude air defense system.
With its obvious effectiveness, the Ak-630 remains one of the most dangerous anti-aircraft artillery systems equipped on warships.

The Palma anti-aircraft artillery-missile system is designed to defend against enemy air attacks, Dat Viet Newspaper reported. With the AO-18KD system that can fire 10,000 bullets in 1 minute, it can destroy anti-ship missiles, aircraft as well as small targets on the water and on land.
The Palma system's combat module operates fully automatically, each module consists of 8 Sosna-R missiles. The Sosna-R missiles are pre-installed in the launcher along with 2 30 mm AO-18KD automatic 6-barrel cannons (with 1,500 rounds).
Currently, the Palma-SU automatic air defense missile-gun system is equipped on Gepard 3.9 frigates (HQ-011 Dinh Tien Hoang and HQ-012 Ly Thai To).

The AK-230 is a Soviet naval artillery system, consisting of two 30 mm NN-30 guns using a water-cooled mechanism, guided by Drum Tilt or Muff Cobb radar with the main function of air defense, Infonet said.
With a firing rate of 1,000 rounds/minute/barrel, a maximum range of 6.7 km, and an effective range of 2.5 - 4 km, the AK-230 can also destroy small surface targets such as speedboats or mines...
The AK-230 system is inferior to the AK-630 in many aspects, but its 30 x 210 mm ammunition is more powerful and has a higher velocity than the 30 x 165 mm ammunition of the AK-630.
